2 imageThis year's competition was to create a mascot and/or a slogan to promote Green-Schools Travel. We recieved some brilliant entries and well done to everyone involved! Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Alan Kelly TD took the opportunity to praise the success of the Green-Schools Travel programme at the annual Travel Competition Awards ceremony held at Tailors’ Hall on the 14th April. At a special prize-giving ceremony, attended by Mr. Kelly, pupils from ten schools across the country were awarded for creating a mascot or slogan for the Green-Schools Travel Programme. The prize-winners were chosen from over two thousand entries from schools across the country. Individual winners received a bike and cycling goodie pack, as well as a digital video camera and prize-fund to support environmental initiatives in their school. Speaking at this year’s event, Minister Kelly commented on the success of the programme to date, with almost one-third reduction in private car journeys in favour of more sustainable travel options, which he said showed that “the message on sustainable travel is getting through”.
