Its easy to see that Our Lady of Mercy Primary School, Sligo Town have been involved in the Green-Schools programme for many years. Take a look at the videos and the powerpoint presentation below, all excellent work undertaken by pupils at the school, and you will see evidence of their interest in the environment relating to all the Green Flags they have achieved, namely Litter & Waste, Energy, Water, Travel and their most recent theme of Biodiversity.
You will learn about the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and especially the ones that focus on Climate Change and eradicating World Poverty. You will see how caring for our environment in Ireland can help those from poorer communities in other parts of the world. You will find this project both interesting and inspiring.
Well done to Lisa Noone, class teacher at the school and of course to Sr Teresa Fahy who has been the Green-Schools Coordinator in the school for many years. Sr Teresa is retiring this February and will be missed by everyone. She is absolutely delighted to have secured, with big thanks to An Taisce for the 100% grant, a super Covered Cycle Storage Unit for pupils to store their bicycles when they cycle to school.
Our Lady of Mercy was involved in the National Rollout of the Travel theme in 2008 and worked closely with Imelda Ryan-Jones, An Taisce Travel Education Officer, on the Green-Schools theme, promoting walking, cycling and using public transport. They were successful in achieving the Green Flag for Sustainable Travel in 2010. Pupils are delighted to be able to park their bikes in the covered unit when they cycle to school. Well done An Taisce, and well done indeed to Sr. Teresa and everyone at Our Lady of Mercy Primary in Sligo Town
