At Killenaule N.S., Co. Tipperary the committee comprises eight students, elected from 3rd to 6th class, the Principal and Assistant Teacher. The Committee Secretary keeps records of the meetings which are held monthly or weekly depending on progress. Students on the committee report back to the classes informing teachers and pupils of progress and points in need of consideration.

Killenaule N.S.participated in a Week of Action (25th – 29th April) for National Spring Clean. The pupils designed and hung posters in the local church porch ,in local shops and at the local Post Office. Each day of that week a designated team including teachers, committee members and other pupils from classes 3rd – 6th donned bibs and gloves and picked up (into separate bags) cans, bottles, papers, etc. in areas previously identified as in need of a clean-up – car park, laneway, area around Sports Complex – along with streets from school gates to those designated areas.
The school also has a number of initiatives in place to reduce waste and litter, as well as, to conserve energy and water. These are:
Switch off lights/computers when not in need/use.
Turn off taps/cisterns over weekends/holidays.
Old school radios, computer parts, tape recorders, etc. are brought to Legaun Recycling Depot to be recycled.
Old school furniture/books sent to Belize in Central America.
Discourage use of pre-packed lunches e.g. Attack-A-Snack to cut down on packaging.
Encourage reuse of plastic drinks bottles for healthier drinks including dilutable squashes and water.
Discourage eating of bars.
