New Blue Flag Certificate for Green-Schools Day of Action

Many of you will know of the Blue Flag for beaches and marinas. Blue Flag and Green-Schools are sister programmes of FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) and the Blue Flag in Ireland is also operated by the Environmantal Education Unit of An Taisce. As part of the 7 steps of the Green-Schools programme, a school undertakes a Day of Action and now a school can receive a special award if their Day of Action is conducted at a Blue Flag beach.

Any school involved in the programme who conducts their Day of Action at a Blue Flag beach during the summer season which is directly related to the care of and/or education in the marine environment will receive a certificate from the Blue Flag manager. Activities could include a clean up or a day of learning about the marine environment. This Day of Action can help the beach maintain its Blue Flag status as environmental activities at the beach must be conducted by the local authority as part of the Blue Flag criteria.

For more information please contact Lucy Hunt, Blue Flag Manager at blueflag@antaisce.org, Telephone 01-4002210.
