National Spring Clean is Ireland's premier anti-litter campaign. The campaign takes place during the entire month of April and encourages members from every sector of society to organise and actively participate in a clean up event.
The campaign attracts volunteers from Residents' Associations, Tidy Towns Groups, Schools, Community Groups, Youth Groups, Environmental and Voluntary Organisations and indeed individuals who simply want to clean up their own area.
In summary, in NSC 2006:
- Over 341,005 volunteers participated in 3594 events nationwide
- An estimated 3340 tonnes of litter was collected
- 35% of the total amount of waste collected was recycled
